Job Description
We are looking for a creative and high energy attorney interested in working at the nexus of law, business,鈥 technology, and data. 鈥疶his role will join the Business Law & Compliance division of Allstate鈥檚 Law and Regulation department to provide broad commercial counseling for Allstate鈥檚 health insurance and related products, including Short-Term Medical, Medicare Supplement, and ancillary products, as well as support for health insurance technology and distribution. This attorney will be recognized internally as a subject matter expert, has advanced business acumen, and will provide legal counsel for Allstate鈥檚 Individual Health 农夫导航 business.

Compensation offered for this role is $95,700.00 - 170,925.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
- Real time and critical business-focused commercial legal advice for a broad range of businesses and issues, including advising on product, marketing, and sales鈥
- Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including technology, data, and service contracts鈥赌
- Advise business partners on emerging business issues, legal subjects and risk management primarily in areas of commercial contract, regulatory, privacy, and consumer protection鈥赌
- Executive presence and concise verbal and written communication a must鈥
- Play a role in executing strategy, action planning, and communication with business partners, business units, and other areas of Law & Regulation鈥
- Anticipate legal concerns and provide creative problem solving in a dynamic business environment鈥
- Complex research as to applicability of pertinent laws, statutes, regulations, rules, and other legal authority; ability to summarize concisely and collaborate with other areas of company to determine impact of new legal authority on business and enable action plans鈥
- Understand interaction in regulated environments between business, policy, compliance, legislative and legal frameworks鈥
- Comfort with executing on goals and objectives through ambiguity and in a changing business and legal landscape鈥
- Execution abilities within a parent company and its family of companies鈥
- Ability to manage outside counsel and budgets.
Prefer experience in the following areas:鈥
- Understanding of federal and state health insurance regulations particularly those impacting Medicare and Medicare supplement plans and short-term medical insurance; familiarity with health care regulations including Affordable Care Act and Medicare; experience with major medical or ancillary benefits and life insurance a plus.鈥
- Business acumen with ability to quantify return on investments (contribute to business cases and risk evaluations)鈥
- Assist in building a culture of constructive debate and conversations with a virtual team across multiple locations鈥
鈥
A typical day for a Lead Counsel might include:鈥
- Advising business partners on a new product rollout or a new corporate structure鈥
- Coordinating, understanding, and synthesizing complex legal advice from other attorneys within Law and Regulation and outside experts to advise business partners in a simple, direct manner鈥
- Drafting a licensing arrangement or commercial deals鈥
- Driving implementation of a compliance plan鈥赌

- J.D is required鈥
- Admitted and licensed to practice law
- 5+ years legal experience in a law firm or an in-house legal department for a mid- to large-sized company鈥赌
Experience in the following areas:
- Short-term medical, Medicare supplement, accident and/or life insurance, commercial transactions, distribution or agency issues, privacy, technology, and/or highly regulated sectors鈥
- Experience operating within a parent company and its family of companies鈥
- Preference for experience advising a commercial business unit and/or business and work experience outside legal context鈥
- Ability to travel to the Chicago, Illinois offices, as needed, for business related team meetings and events.
